New Environmental and Regulatory Registry Postings: MTO

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has announced two new Environmental and Regulatory public registry postings. Both were posted publicly on September 9, 2021. The postings will provide the public with an overview of the program changes which were previously shared through industry stakeholder sessions held earlier this year.

The links below are being shared to provide the industry with an opportunity to provide input on the proposed changes to the modernized and streamlined program.

Modernizing Ontario’s Vehicle Inspection Program & integrating safety and emissions inspections for commercial vehicles:
Summary: The MTO is proposing to introduce new regulatory requirements for garages and technicians to participate in a Vehicle Inspection Program, replacing the Motor Vehicle Inspection Station (MVIS) program. Changes will integrate safety and emission standards and move on-road vehicle emission standards to the Highway Traffic Act.

Summary: The MTO is proposing to implement changes to the HTA to support a new Vehicle Inspection Program.
Comments on this proposal are due by October 25th, 2021
